From One Custom Paddle to a Production Run: What Changes at 1, 10, 50 and 500

iMPACT Pickleball

Most paddle programs start smaller than people expect. A player designs a paddle for themselves. A friend wants one. A club wants ten for a tournament. A company wants fifty for an event. A brand wants five hundred to launch. Each of those is a real order we build, and each one is built a little differently. This guide walks up the ladder and explains what changes at each rung.

One paddle: the One-of-One

A One-of-One is a single custom paddle, made to order on the same line as our production runs. You design it in the Build Room, pay at checkout, receive a photorealistic proof of your paddle with the artwork applied, approve it, and we make it. Free U.S. shipping is included.

Because it is one paddle, it is built on one fixed platform: a hybrid shape, standard handle, 16 mm performance core, T700 carbon fiber face, full face custom print with a textured playing surface, black edge guard, black grip, black neck band and a standard black grip cap, with the same design on both faces or a different design on each. The face color can be natural or a custom printed base. Everything that needs a production quantity, other shapes, thermoformed construction, custom colored components, packaging, is listed under each step in the Build Room as a Production Run option.

Since it is made specifically for you, a One-of-One is final sale.

Three to ten paddles: Samples First

Between one and fifty sits Samples First: three to ten identical paddles. This is how a club, a team or a brand holds the product before committing to a run. Samples are quoted within one business day with a concept proof, and they are built to a specification that carries forward, so the sample you approve is the paddle the run will match.

Samples First opens shape choices and construction choices that a One-of-One does not, because it is built as a small production set rather than a single unit. It is also where a founder finds out whether the design works in hand, which is worth more than any render.

Fifty paddles: the first production run

At fifty paddles, cold pressed, the full factory opens. What changes:

  • Shapes. More than 120 established shapes, or a reference paddle we match to the closest available mold.
  • Construction and thickness. Cold pressed at 50; thermoformed at 100. Thickness options from thin and lively to 16 mm control.
  • Components. Edge guards, neck bands, grips and grip caps in standard colors are included; custom colors and custom logos become available, each with its own minimum lot, which the Build Room shows next to the option.
  • Packaging. A stock retail box with your logo, or a fully custom printed box at its own minimum.
  • Certification. A run can be built for USA Pickleball approval, UPA-A certification, or both, with the certification set produced at the same specification as the run.
  • Pricing. Quoted formally, with shipping quoted DDP so freight, duties and customs are included before payment.

Fifty paddles is where a One-of-One design becomes a program. The build sheet from the single paddle carries the shape, materials and artwork forward; the run adds everything that needed quantity.

One hundred paddles: the launch quantity

One hundred is the number we build the Your Paddle Company program around, and it is the thermoformed minimum. It is enough inventory to launch a brand: paddles for first orders, photography, samples for the people whose opinion the community follows, a few events, and the start of the reorder cycle. Production specifications and master samples are retained, so the second hundred matches the first. For why one hundred into a connected community changes everything, read how to start a paddle company.

Five hundred and up: volume

At five hundred and beyond, the economics flip. Setup costs that were a large share of each paddle at fifty nearly disappear. Component lots that had to be bought whole at a hundred are simply consumed. Custom tooling, a new shape or a custom handle, starts to make sense because the run will use it. Sea freight becomes worth its slower timeline. This is the territory of trade manufacturing: private label, white label and full custom development under NDA, produced alongside the national brands on the same line.

What stays the same at every size

  • The proof. Every build, from one paddle to five thousand, gets a photorealistic proof and nothing is made until it is approved.
  • The line. One paddle and one thousand are built on the same production operation with the same materials, inspection and QC.
  • The build sheet. The specification that starts as a One-of-One is the specification that becomes a run. Nothing has to be redesigned to scale.
  • The people. The same team quotes the sample, the run and the reorder.

Where to start

If you want one paddle, start a One-of-One. If you want to hold the product before a run, ask for Samples First in the Build Room. If you already know the quantity, the Build Room collects everything the production team needs to quote your run in one pass, and we reply within one business day.

Common questions

Can I order just one custom pickleball paddle?

Yes. The One-of-One program builds a single custom paddle to your design, with a photorealistic proof before manufacturing and free U.S. shipping.

What is the minimum for a production run?

50 paddles for cold pressed construction and 100 for thermoformed. Between one and fifty, a Samples First order of three to ten identical paddles is the way to hold the product before committing to a run.

If I design a One-of-One, can it become a production paddle later?

Yes. The build sheet from a One-of-One carries the shape, materials and artwork forward, and a production run opens the options that need quantity: more shapes, thermoformed construction, custom components and packaging.
